TOKYO, Oct. 16 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks closed lower Friday amid concerns over a stalemate in the United States over a coronavirus package for the hard-hit economy and fears over the impact of rising COVID-19 cases in Europe and new restrictions.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dropped 96.60 points, or 0.41 percent, from Thursday to close the day at 23,410.63.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, lost 14.10 points, or 0.86 percent, to finish at 1,617.69.
Land transportation, mining and real estate-linked issues comprised those that declined the most by the close of play.
