ABUJA, Oct. 16 (Xinhua) -- A total of 181 students and teachers of a private high school in Lagos state, Nigeria's commercial hub, have tested positive for COVID-19, an official said Friday.
This followed surveillance and case investigation in the school located in Lekki, a city in Lagos, said Akin Abayomi, the state's commissioner for health.
The infected students and school staff are, however, predominantly asymptomatic, Abayomi said.
"Some have very mild symptoms. No student has required hospitalization," the health official said, adding that there are a total of 441 students and staff in the school.
Schools in Nigeria have been under lockdown since the outbreak here in March, but authorities ordered the reopening of schools for graduating classes in preparation for external examinations a few weeks ago.
Families of the infected have already been contacted, the official said, adding the situation was under control.
The Lagos government has earlier ordered the full reopening of public and private schools starting on Oct. 19.
