BEIJING, Dec. 1 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed higher Tuesday, with financial heavyweights leading the gain.
The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index went up 1.77 percent to close at 3,451.94 points while the Shenzhen Component Index closed 1.9 percent higher at 13,930.38 points.
The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices stood at 865 billion yuan (about 131.2 billion U.S. dollars), down from 950.7 billion yuan the previous trading day.
Large-cap financial firms led the gain, with small and medium-sized banks seeing their shares surge. Bank of Xi'an and Bank of Qingdao jumped by the daily limit of 10 percent.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, gained 2.53 percent to close at 2,698.44 points.
