The Los Angeles Dodgers acquired outfielder Billy McKinney from the New York Mets on Wednesday for minor league outfielder Carlos Rincon and cash.
The 26-year-old McKinney was designated for assignment by the Mets on Friday. He batted .220 with five homers and 14 RBIs in 39 games with the Mets.
McKinney began the season with the Milwaukee Brewers before being dealt to New York in late May. Overall, he is batting .213 with eight homers and 20 RBIs in 79 big-league games this season.
The Dodgers designated right-hander Jake Reed for assignment to open up a 40-man roster spot for McKinney. The 28-year-old Reed had a 3.38 ERA in six appearances (one start) for Los Angeles.
Rincon, 23, is batting .263 with 12 homers and 48 RBIs in 63 games for Double-A Tulsa.
New York also recalled right-hander Nick Tropeano and infielder Travis Blankenhorn from Triple-A Syracuse, optioned right-hander Geoff Hartlieb to the same affiliate and placed right-hander Robert Stock (right hamstring strain) on the 10-day injured list.
The Mets claimed right-hander Roel Ramirez off waivers from the St. Louis Cardinals and optioned the 26-year-old to Syracuse. Ramirez made one appearance for the Cardinals this season and one in 2020, serving up four homers and allowing nine runs in one total inning.
