MEXICO CITY, Oct. 2 (Xinhua) -- Santos Laguna secured third place in Mexico's Liga MX standings on Sunday with a 3-0 home victory over Mazatlan in the final day of the regular season.
Fernando Gorriaran put the hosts ahead by converting a 73rd-minute penalty before Javier Correa struck twice in three minutes as the Guerreros clinched their 10th win of the campaign.
Mazatlan were left outside the playoff places with 17 points from as many matches.
In other final-day fixtures on Sunday, Toluca clinched sixth spot after a 4-1 home win over league strugglers Queretaro and Leon finished 10th following a 2-2 home draw with Tijuana.
The teams placed fifth to 12th will contest the first week of the playoffs next weekend with the winners earning a berth in the quarterfinals.
