MEXICO CITY, Sept. 25 (Xinhua) -- At least seven people drowned and nine others were missing after an arroyo overflowed in west Mexico's Jalisco state, local authorities said Monday.
"The preliminary outcome is nine people missing, seven dead and three people were rescued, along with damage to roads and homes," the state government posted on social media platform X about the El Cangrejo Arroyo in the town of Autlan de Navarro.
The local Civil Protection agency and Fire Department posted an urgent warning via Facebook at 8:00 a.m. local time about flooding at the arroyo.
"We have registered significant damage in the Jalocote area and currently overflow is being reported in La Lima," the agency wrote, advising residents near the arroyo to move to higher ground and maintain a safe distance from the flooded areas.
Rescuers from the Civil Protection and the Fire Department in Autlan, as well as the state capital Guadalajara and the cities of Ciudad Guzman and Cihuatlan arrived at the scene to attend to the emergency and search for the missing.
Videos posted on social media showed the force of the fast-flowing water sweeping away everything in its path.
