New Delhi [India], September 3 (ANI): Congress Rajya Sabha MP P Chidambaram has criticised the Tianjin Declaration of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), calling it 'inane'.
Sharing an X post on Tuesday, Chidambaram said that Pakistan's signature shows that countries across the world do not differentiate between 'terrorism-exporting' and 'terrorism-affected' nations.
Chidambaram wrote, 'The Tianjin Declaration strongly condemned terrorism in all its forms and manifestations. It was signed and adopted by Pakistan. That shows the worth of the Declaration.'
'Unless countries of the world are able to distinguish between terrorism-exporting nations and terrorism-affected nations, such inane Declarations will be signed and adopted,' the X post read.
The Congress MP's remarks come after the member states of the SCO signed the joint declaration adopting a strong stance against terrorism. The member states strongly condemned the terrorist attack in Pahalgam on 22 April in which 26 people were killed.
They expressed their deepest sympathy and condolences to the families of the deceased and the wounded. They further stated that perpetrators, organisers and sponsors of such attacks must be brought to justice.
The member states, while reaffirming their commitment to the fight against terrorism, separatism, and extremism, stressed the inadmissibility of attempts to use terrorist, separatist and extremist groups for mercenary purposes. They recognised the leading role of sovereign states and their competent authorities in countering terrorist and extremist threats.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi thanked member states for their solidarity in the wake of the Pahalgam terror attack, and urged that there should be no double standards in fighting terrorism.
Sharing the details in a post on X, the Spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Randhir Jaiswal, said, 'PM @narendramodi addressed the 25th Meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), held in Tianjin, China. PM highlighted India's approach to strengthening cooperation under the SCO framework & sought greater action under three pillars- Security, Connectivity and Opportunity. He called upon Member countries to take firm & decisive action to fight terrorism in all its manifestations. Thanking member states for their solidarity in the wake of the Pahalgam Terror attack, he urged that there should be no double standards in fighting terrorism. The SCO Member countries adopted the Tianjin Declaration.' (ANI)
