Gogamukh (Assam) [India], April 1 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday emphasised the development of Assam under the BJP regime and described the previous ten years as an 'era of service and good governance.'
Addressing a public rally in Assam's Gogamukh, the Prime Minister expressed confidence of achieving 'hattrick' of victory in state. Meanwhile, in an indirect jibe at LoP Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, he stressed that the upcoming election will mark 'century of defeats for Congress' self-proclaimed prince.'
'Under the leadership of Shri Sarbananda Sonowal first, and then under the guidance of Shri Himanta Biswa Sarma, Assam has witnessed a new era of service and good governance in the past 10 years. These Assam elections are the election to build a developed Assam for a developed India. This time, a hat-trick for the BJP-NDA government is certain. And a hat-trick of defeat for Congress is also certain. And a century of defeat for Congress's self-proclaimed prince is also on the cards,' said PM Modi.
PM Modi further welcomed the widespread public support and enthusiasm, calling it 'proof' of winning Assam elections for third consecutive time.
'After the announcement of the Assam election, this is my first public meeting. This ocean of people is proof that winning the election for the third time is certain. With your blessings, I have achieved the hattrick of becoming Prime Minister. This is my third visit to this ground. With your blessings, we will win Assam for the third time,' said the Prime Minister.
Highlighting the promises in BJP's manifesto for Assam polls, he emphasised that more than 15 lakh families will benefit from the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana scheme, whereas poor families will receive free education from classes Kindergarten to Play Group. PM Modi also aimed to benefit 40 lakh women through the Lakhpati Didi scheme, adding that around 3 lakh women in the state have already become 'Lakhpati Baideo.'
'In the past, more than 22 lakh families got pucca houses. The BJP manifesto says that those who did not get a PM Awas house will surely get a pucca house. In the future, 15 lakh more families will be guaranteed pucca houses. Poor families will get free education from KG to PG. With the Lakhpati Didi Abhiyan, 3 lakh sisters of Assam have become Lakhpati Baideo. The NDA will ensure that 40 lakh sisters become Lakhpati Baideo. The Assam BJP is going to expand the Orunodoi scheme and add more benefits,' said PM Modi.
The polling for all 126 Assembly constituencies will be held in a single phase on April 9, while the counting of votes is scheduled for May 4. Assam will witness a fight between the incumbent BJP-led NDA government and Congress for the 126-seat assembly.
The BJP is contesting the elections with Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and Bodoland People's Front (BPF).
The NDA will look to secure a third consecutive term, while the Congress aims to defeat the ruling party to return to power. (ANI)
