Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], July 29 (ANI): Maharashtra Samajwadi President Abu Asim Azmi on Tuesday said that it would be great if the three terrorists killed in the Operation Mahadev were the same people who were involved in the Pahalgam attack that left 26 civilians dead.
'The government wants to be praised. If they were the same people and they were killed, that's great,' Azmi told ANI.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday announced in the Lok Sabha that three Pakistani Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists involved in the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack were killed by security forces during the recent Operation Mahadev in Jammu and Kashmir.
Azmi, however, questioned the government on 'security lapse' causing the Pahalgam attack.
'The public has a question about why there was no security there that day, where these people came from, and they killed them so easily and went away. And now all those people were caught together and were killed,' he said.
'The 140 crore people want to know the answer to this. The families of the 26 victims did not receive justice. Today, you (the government) are saying that they were killed,' Azmi said.
Amit Shah revealed the details of the terrorists killed in Operation Mahadev.
'... In the Operation Mahadev, Suleman alias Faizal..., Afghan and Jibran, these three terrorists were killed in a joint operation of the Indian Army, CRPF and J&K Police... Suleman was an A-category commander of the Lashkar-e-Taiba. Afghan was an A-category Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist. And Jibran was also an A-grade terrorist... All three terrorists who killed our citizens in the Baisaran valley have been eliminated...,' Shah said during the second debate on the Operation Sindoor in the Lok Sabha.
The top BJP leader said, ' All three terrorists - Suleman, Afghan and Jibran were killed in yesterday's operation. The people who used to supply food to them were detained earlier. Once the bodies of these terrorists were brought to Srinagar, they were identified by those who were kept detained by our agencies.'
The anti-terror Operation Mahadev took place in the general area of Lidwas, the Chinar Corps of the Indian Army said.
'OP MAHADEV - Contact established in General Area Lidwas. Operation in progress,' the Chinar Corp said in a post on X. (ANI)
